Who is she ?

Disclaimer

I strongly advice people who never-ever needed an aspirin in them life to not read this.

Before continue reading bellow, you must know this post is the first episode of a new serie, some based (also) on effects-events I`v writed about back in april.

…………………………..

Introduction

Once upon the time was a blog. That time mean before april 06, 2007.

Content

What happen ?

But I want the thing people see when they come here now to reflect what this blog has always been about, so I’m including a few of my favorite pictures from the last two years here.

One of those pics is this :

beginnings.jpg

A new reader (but with some brain training) will be at least surprised. Start something not from beginning, but from a certain moment ?
How about education training ? Should be started from high school then if knowledges from primary would be needed, do what ?
If is about a relation, push things to a level and start from there ?

Oh, this is nothing ..

Let`s go to ABOUT page.

… is the co-creator of the bestselling Head First books (the brain-friendly series from O’Reilly)…

… since her days as a game developer …

Holly UNIX !

Co-author of a bestseller and have no domain name ? game developer and have no back link on about page ? Just wonder .. she developed tic-tac-toe game ?

No, that`s not all.

Kathy Sierra – because about she`s blog is this post – is the one who generated Tim O`Reilly`s war against freedom of speech back in april.

The shit started from a suposed DEATH THREAT aimed to her by somebody.

But let`s let facts to talk :

So, I’ve moved my original “threats” post–something many people find very difficult to look at– to a different web page — rather than keeping it as a post here. If you want to read the original content of the post (it lost some formatting), it’s here.

Do not bother to click on link, here`s the screen :

screen.jpg

I`ll be agree to be converted to any and all existing religion if THERE (see above screenshoot) is anything about the threat …

But .. was there any threat ?

Seems not .. more likely was a missunderstanding. That was also pointed by T. O. on a second instance, AFTER he successfully reacted positive to idea to listen the other side of story .. yet he done that AFTER he put all story on BBC-something, wikipedia and who knows where else.
And AFTER he flamed blogosphere with the idea of badging blogs = segregation = divide et impera = cut the freedom of speech etc.
Sure, T. O. had cared to make others “episodes” about the issue (except the initial one) unavailable to public – and no archive link on his blog too …

Therefore, all issue was blow in the wind – as what had start the “thing” – and big big publicity options for both Tim and Kathy.

However, a shallow passing by on several OLD posts on K.S. blog revealed to me, personaly, that :
- blog is for peoples who are VERY deep into a certain area-culture of USA and native english speakers;
- most of posts are relating – promoting others opinions;
- many times – not allways – she avoid to be very clear on one side or another (do not forget, i`m not native english speaker, not awared who are peoples she keep quoting and so on);
- keep reading there I can`t stop to have a “something sound false” impression.

Yet, certain things I found there – be them K. S. ideas or not – were good and correct.

……….

Conclusions

This post was generated by two main issues :

- from last post`s comments, several are “missing in action”. Surprising (not) is that all I can`t spot`em any more were ones doubting blog author – yet not in threatening way. All is left in comments are “sirup” carebears`s words of worshiping. Whorst : despite all “prays’, no K. S. comment-reply, at least a “thanks guys” …

- this blog and certain “events” there have generated lot of newspappers and internet articles willing to enforce a wrong idea in the name of a “looks good” ideal, yet false and dangerous.

Share with us, very briefly, your personal opinion about internet freedom of speech and necesity to allow easyer / safer access to informations.

Francis

In many ways the Internet has proven itself a potential force for the radical democratization of society, but without strong safeguards we could find the power of the medium greatly curtailed. We who collectively form the vast Web community must remain watchful and act quickly to counter any attempt to limit the core principle of freedom of speech.

The Internet is an invaluable tool for the free exchange of information. Not only does it offer an equal platform for many varied voices to express themselves, but it’s also a vast storehouse of information from which we can learn and build.

To effect real social change, people need to be able to not just freely speak their minds, but to connect with each other and collaborate on the causes that they recognize as vital for both individual and social progress. The latest advances in web-based communication have made it easier to establish such movement building, with the proliferation of social networking sites, peer-to-peer file sharing, simplified digital content generation, and open source software.

So far the commercial interests who have been driving the technological improvements in the Web have for the most part recognized and honored the fundamental principles that fed its growth across the globe. The concepts of network neutrality and open access have given forward-thinking businesses exposure to ever wider audiences, and some have even discovered the possibility of generating cheaper advertising and entertainment content through crowd sourcing.

Because the driving motivator for a commercial entity is profit, however, we can’t rely on the goodwill of these businesses that currently control our access to the Internet. There are already legal battles looming over network neutrality, which could give providers the power to restrict subscribers from reaching certain content. The cable and phone companies who provide access at a cost are also fighting attempts by several municipalities in the US to provide free citywide WiFi, which would allow greater numbers to participate in the discourse.

Censorship can come in many guises, and there are of course forces political as well as commercial who’d like to trample our rights. In closed societies, inappropriate content is being filtered out, but there are other more subtle means for quieting dissent through legal and cultural intimidation, which appear all over the globe. Separately, struggling in isolation, we can’t do very much to counteract this. Collectively, armed with political will and awareness, we can ensure the Internet fulfills its potential.

7 reasons why
about guest-bloggers
more rules
golden rules
dictionary

Yo, people.

Bellow you`ll find some tips and tricks about elements required for a blog, specially for a start.

» Avoid use of a full sized image for header. SEs don`t like images. However, if use of a image is what you want, do not forget to ad the alt tag. Best is if you can overlay a h1 tag title over the image.
» Prefferable use h1 tag for blog title. SE looks for one in header. If default h1 tag`s color and size is not fit to what you want, use CSS to make it as you`re pleased.
» Header is fit to be filled with certain elements, but do not overcrowd it, keep it clean.
» If plan to use a banner on header, keep it on top, above the title and logo.
» Main menu should not be overpopulate. Repeat it on bottom of page, on footer.
» Blogroll is usefull for linkexchange also for quick navigation to similar / friends sites (for you and your visitors). Should open in new window.
» Category and archive are very important for inside blog navigation for visitors. Also is usefull to have a “most visited” or “popular posts” area.
» Use a sidebar spaces to show blog statistics and top commentators. Second one is to reward with an extra linkback certain visitors – the most active ones.
» Remove rel=nofollow from comment area. Enhance comment area to make it easy and fun to use by readers.
» Think for eventual monetization of blog and estabilish 1 – 2 areas to display ads, including the one in header if you want one there.
» Keep in mind that ads probably will never produce a income to be proud of.
» Ad a counter and eventual a visitors map. Both are good for you – to watch things growing – and for visitors – many are curious to know those data.
» Do not overcrowd sidebars with badges and widgets, specially if are not generated from your area (domain). Those usualy makes page load harder. If you really want to have all those “fashionable bells”, simply put them in a separate page and put a link to that page (“my widgets” or similar).
» If you absolutely want to embed some sound or video, make it to not start automaticaly. Put it in a visible spot and let the visitor to decide to listen / view.
» Promote your blog in the start, using as many social sites as possible. Make free accounts wherever is possible and add there a link to your blog, using articles teasers or being active on those sites.
» Do not forget, visitors are easyly to get bored of your blog if is loading hard, looks like a hoopoe, often layout change, inconsistent content, not enough often content update.
» GIGO (garbage input, garbage output) effect is valid for a blog, consider the content as input and number of constant readers as output.
» Very important, as you start : to have several articles writed in your draft and use them if nothing else to write on a certain moment.
» Make usefull – sensefull comments on others blogs as a good (maybe best) way to promote your own blog.
» Allways remember : building traffic to your blog is a long term activity, requiring patience. Maintaining the traffic level is also hard.
» Show respect to your readers, do things to keep them pleased, readers-commenters are the core for a blog, not visitors. Your main goal is to make visitors to keep returning and to convert them into readers-commenters.
» Again, do not forget : it need months to build a good traffic.
» Is not a piece of cake to keep people intersted on your content if you simply copy others. Be creative.
» Use the time of beginning, whe your traffic is low, to visit as many blogs and sites you can and do not repeat on yours what you don`t like there.
» Allways repeat to yourself that nobody is set to be a unique authority in a certain field. Learn and do things in your style.

Good luck ! :-)

I`m stoned.

Another great big famous man died.

internet marketing sucks

September 5th, 2007 by Valentin
Respond

Well, well ..

Again subject of blogwrestling© post was changed in last minute, again for objective reasons.

I want to spread the word about a blog I watch for some time now. The guy is the author or coauthor of at least three projects – about cycling-coaching, about punk music and about .. wait a minute! .. about :

I’m generally a nice guy, but when it comes to all the get-rich-quick gurus, I get pretty irritated, and it shows!

This is the guy’s name and purposes, but you are here to read about his :

internetmarketingsucks dot com

Well, if this blog isn’t a good one – one of best I noticed on blogosphere – then is the 747 who hit the Pentagon building on 9 / 11.

What I think, and strongly belive and powerfully backup, is that one can’t get bored reading it.

Get some samples :

I figured it was some new ad service from Google, like their radio ads, that would allow you to earn money that Google could keep for themselves after banning your account.

The $97 ebook phenomenon might slow down, only to see a surge of $37/month membership blogs. This in turn will give blogging a bad name, much like the internet marketing industry as a whole.

This will be soooo different than anything else in the past. I have a feeling that this will be the biggest trend yet, so remember, you heard it here first!

Ya see, the blog is challenged to this wrestling is rather a team mate than a .. enemy. Sure, I may say sometime is not harsh enough but however, while so few are outthere going to rant about true faces of so called gurus, about the realities on blogosphere – and not only – or about real good-bad potential of certain things, internet marketing sucks dot com worth a close follow.

This is a spon .. no ! rephraze : This (hopefully) will be a sponsored post. I will (maybe) receive 2 cents (mean 0.02 usd) for writing it. Yet, I wonder who’ll give me the money ..

Anyway, while you are still here – yes, you, the one reading here now – why don’t you try the bellow “comment” link ? I only delete (and report as) spam comments ..

All I want is to sing it out loud
So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I’m singing

Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me”
